Duties: Applicants are invited for a Research Associate position in a leading neuroscience research group in the Division of Biosciences. The post holder will devise new experiments using CCD, confocal and 2 photon imaging, electrophysiological, calcium imaging, histological and mathematical techniques to study how microglia and pericytes control blood flow in the brain, both in health and in pathological conditions
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD (awarded or submitted) in a relevant subject area and have significant experience of the appropriate techniques, and a deep understanding of the topic of the investigation. The post holder will have proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies specifically: studying microglia or pericyte function in the brain; obtaining and analysing imaging data on either microglia and neurons in brain slices, or blood vessels and blood flow in vivo; mouse microsurgery (e.g. brain slicing, tracheotomy, placement of catheters, craniotomy, cortical virus injections); 2-photon imaging of blood vessels; assessment of blood flow; and assessment of pericyte function. Experience of applying pathological manipulations such as those mimicking stroke or spreading depression and investigating the resulting changes in control of blood flow is essential. Candidates must also be experienced in use of imaging programmes such as Metamorph and/or ImageJ. Evidence of a publication record in good quality publications is essential. Evidence of contributing to research bids would be advantageous

This vacancy is available from March 2018 for one year, in the first instance.
