Experience of vacuum system maintenance and other surface analysis techniques are desirable. HarwellXPS is the newly established National XPS Service for the UK, and is a collaboration between Cardiff University and UCL. The service will provide access to XPS instrumentation and expert advice on analysis for UK researchers in academia and industry. Users will be able to access seven instruments in total, located over four sites. The main hub of the facility will be at Harwell, on the Science and Innovation Campus, next to Diamond Light Source and ISIS Neutron Source. Two state of the art spectrometers will be installed early in 2018. The service will be run by two Research Associates who will liaise with users, assist with analysis, and conduct their own research. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved with cutting edge XPS analysis across a very wide range of physical science and engineering. The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team and will have the opportunity to form extensive networks within the UK research community, as well as pursuing their own research programme using the facilities. The successful applicant will conduct photoemission spectroscopy and related analytical techniques as part of the UK National XPS Service, HarwellXPS. The role will involve liaising with users, maintaining the equipment and conducting training as necessary. The appointments are funded by EPSRC for 3 years in the first instance.
