Text: Research Associate in Optically Disaggregated Data Centre Networks, - Ref:1706573 Click here to go back to search results Apply Now UCL Department / Division Electronic & Electrical Engineering Location of position London Grade 7 Hours Full Time Salary (inclusive of London allowance) ?34,635 - ?39,644 per annum Duties and Responsibilities We wish to recruit a Research Associate from 15th January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter to work on the EU H2020 project dRedBox (http://www.dredbox.eu/) involving the design, development and demonstration of optical and programmable networks for disaggregated Rack-Sale Data Centres. The dRedBox consortium features prominent European R&D organisations, including IBM Research (Ireland), Telefonica (Spain), UCL (UK), University of Thessaly (Greece), the Foundation for Research and Technology (Greece), Huber Suhner Polatis (UK), Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (Spain), Naudit (Spain), Sintecs (Netherlands), Virtual Open Systems (France) and Kinesense (Ireland). The Research Associate will be responsible for carrying out the experimental work on physical layer optical networks for short-reach all-optically switched data centres with assistance from members of the project team led by Dr G Zervas and members of the Optical Networks Group at UCL. The successful applicant will be expected to develop mathematical models and formulations for SDM fibres at network scale suitable for short -reach interconnects. They will also be expected to publish research in leading journals as well as presenting it at national and international conferences. The appointment will be available from 15th January 2018 until 31st December 2018 in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available. Key Requirements A first degree in engineering or physical sciences subject and proven expertise in data plane optical networks for data centres is required. Candidates should hold or be about to obtain a PhD in a relevant area of all-optical data centre networks.The post is UCL Grade 7, however if the successful candidate has not yet completed their PhD, appointment will be made at Research Assistant level at Grade 6, point 24 - 26 on the UCL Salary scale (?30,316 - ?31,967 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance of ?3031). Payment at Grade 7 point 29 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections) Applicants should also have a track record of publications in optically disaggregated as well as SDM-based Data Centres.
