Position: Senior Institutional Research and Planning Officer

Duties: Responsible for the direct supervision of the IPA Research Analysts. The Research Analyst Supervisor will plan, schedule, assign and check the work of the IPA Research Analysts. Provides advice and direction to Analysts’ with respect to analysis and reporting. In collaboration with the Manager and Director, supports the university’s external and internal reporting and analysis to assist in planning and decision making at a variety of levels across the university
Requirements: Undergraduate University degree in an appropriate analytical discipline (such as economics, sociology, management sciences, engineering, computing or accounting), with specialized courses in statistics and research methodology. 6 years related experience, including four (4) years of experience designing and conducting research and reporting. Experience in gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access in a windows environment and statistical software such as SPSS. Familiarity with structured query language and HTML. Knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g. Cognos, Crystal Reports, Tableau)

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provides direct supervision of Research Analysts including participating on hiring committees and providing feedback regarding performance. Provides for departmental planning and schedules, assigns and checks work and projects, monitors service levels. Leads, plans, designs and conducts research projects and reports results with descriptive and inferential statistics and makes recommendations with regards to follow up research. Assists in the training of new staff, monitoring progress and developing associated training materials. Provides support and advice to instructional and administrative units in preparing and/or interpreting information Regularly engage in problem solving in both a technical and non-technical sense at various levels of the university Responds to a variety of internal data and information requests Develops, manages and manipulates complex databases required for research and reporting. Oversees ongoing data validation to support institutional data integrity. Establishes and maintains liaison with other TRU departments and participates on institutional committees. Provides advice and support for developing and enhancing processes for reporting. EXPERIENCE: 6 years related experience, including four (4) years of experience designing and conducting research and reporting Experience in gathering, synthesizing, evaluating and interpreting information Experience in a supervisory or coordination role Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access in a windows environment and statistical software such as SPSS SKILLS KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB Ability to plan, schedule and assign work for a department Ability to train and monitor new staff Ability to communicate effectively to a culturally diverse audience, both verbally and in writing, including strong interviewing, listening and interpreting skills Ability to coach and provide guidance to others Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, maintaining accuracy and acute attention to detail. Effective research, analytical, problem-solving and planning skills Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team Effective presentation skills and the ability to convey technical and statistical information to a non-technical audience Ability to maintain and develop new applications using relational databases Ability to work with data dictionaries and use computer applications to manipulate data and produce statistical reports and analyses Familiarity with structured query language and HTML Knowledge of business intelligence tools (e.g. Cognos, Crystal Reports, Tableau) Knowledge of provincial post-secondary reporting and accountability WORKING CONDITIONS Sitting at desk and computer for long period of time, general office conditions Please Note: If you are selected for interview, External Candidates will be required to bring a copy of their transcripts to the interview The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
