Position: Post-doc in „Development of Computational Methods for Multi-Omics data and RNA Biology“

Duties: We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow hired as part of the transregio SFB TR84 “Innate Immunity of the Lung: Mechanisms of Pathogen Attack and Host Defence in Pneumonia” on the C1 Project: “RNA-mediated regulatory networks in Legionella pneumophila pneumonia”. She/he will focus on studying the complex network of coding RNAs, non-coding RNAs and RNA Binding Proteins (RBPs) that regulate lung infection processes from high-throughput multi-omics data
Requirements: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Physics or equivalent with interest in RNA Biology, Microbiology and disease modeling. Alternatively a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biology or equivalent with significant and documented experience in Bioinformatics. Excellent programming skills in R, Python and/or C/C++. Excellent academic record. Keen interest in RNA Biology and post-transcriptional regulation. Experience with NGS data analysis and machine learning or multivariate statistics methods. Scientific curiosity, propensity to problem solving, ability to work independently and develop original ideas. Highly motivated to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and in collaborations with experimental and medical partners. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience in communicating across discipline boundaries. Fluency in spoken and written English
   
Text: The Institute of Computational Biology is a globally recognized department for innovations anchored at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munich and the Technical University of Munich. We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow hired as part of the transregio SFB TR84 “Innate Immunity of the Lung: Mechanisms of Pathogen Attack and Host Defence in Pneumonia” on the C1 Project: “RNA-mediated regulatory networks in Legionella pneumophila pneumonia”. She/he will focus on studying the complex network of coding RNAs, non-coding RNAs and RNA Binding Proteins (RBPs) that regulate lung infection processes from high-throughput multi-omics data. The fellow will develop innovative computational approaches to exploit the potential of already generated high-throughput experiments in order to identify deregulated transcripts, alternative splicing events and other post-transcriptional regulatory events triggered by bacterial infections. The potential of newly identified coding and non -coding RNAs as diagnostic and prognostic clinical biomarkers in pneumonia, and targets for in vivo applicable RNA-inhibitors, will be tested experimentally in collaboration with the group of Prof. Bernd Schmeck at the University Clinic of Marburg. Post-doc in „Development of Computational Methods for Multi-Omics data and RNA Biology“ 2019/0061 Job Description Set up of an NGS computational pipeline, integrated by bioinformatics network analysis, to identify crucial bacterial and human factors important for pathogenicity and modulation of the immune response; integration of RNA-seq, ChIP-seq and proteomics data Pattern recognition and functional analysis of non-coding RNAs and RBPs Application of machine learning methods to the prediction of new post-transcriptional regulators of the lung infection process Your Qualifications Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Physics or equivalent with interest in RNA Biology, Microbiology and disease modeling.
