Position: Deputy Senior Scientific Officer Clinical Trials

Duties: The Sample Handling Laboratory of the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre supports clinical trials by directly receiving and processing samples obtained from clinical trial patients. This post is to provide day-to-day operational supervision of the laboratory, provide supervision to junior staff and take a lead in implementing new working practices to improve monitoring and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures within the laboratory under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse and Senior Scientific Officer Clinical Trials (Senior SOCT). The postholder will also participate in all routine laboratory tasks
Requirements: Educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification, or a combination of training and experience with a science background. Previous laboratory experience gained in a regulated environment and to be familiar with the requirements of Good Clinical Practice. Excellent manual dexterity and accuracy. Effective oral and written communication: able to work with a number of different people groups (e.g. laboratory staff, clinicians, research nurses and other research staff including pharmaceutical company representatives) and experience of operating electronic data bases. Able and to train and supervise other laboratory technicians. Organised, able to prioritise and work to deadlines. Ability to work unsupervised and using own initiative

The Sample Handling Laboratory of the Oxford Cancer and Haematology Centre supports clinical trials by directly receiving and processing samples obtained from clinical trial patients. This post is to provide day-to-day operational supervision of the laboratory, provide supervision to junior staff and take a lead in implementing new working practices to improve monitoring and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures within the laboratory under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse and Senior Scientific Officer Clinical Trials (Senior SOCT). The postholder will also participate in all routine laboratory tasks. The postholder will be educated to at least A-level or equivalent qualification, or a combination of training and experience with a science background. Previous laboratory experience gained in a regulated environment and familiarity with the requirements of Good Clinical Practice are also essential requirements for this position. Experience of working with clinical trials samples and of managing multiple projects simultaneously would be advantageous for this role.
