You will carry out DNA manipulations for recombinant protein production, protein purification and crystallisation and structure determinations. You will also determine protein-ligand binding constants using biophysical techniques. You will provide advice to network collaborators and act as a focal point for the laboratory when hosting network visitors, etc
Requirements: First degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline. PhD in Enzymology, Cell Biology, Structural Biology, or equivalent experience. Significant experience of gene expression and protein production as well as in aspects of enzymology or protein biochemistry. Good knowledge of modern structural biology and an enthusiasm for enzymology, 3-D structure, chemical biology and the project. Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, but also willing to work as part of a research team. Passion for the scientific literature and for communicating your own science through publication and conference presentations. Highly developed communication skills including competency to write publication quality manuscripts and make presentations at conferences. Ability and experience of developing research projects and objectives, conducting research projects and working in a harmonious team
   
Text: Research Associate in Structural Biology: Drug Discovery in Leishmaniasis Department Chemistry Based at University of York - Heslington Campus Hours of work Full-time Contract status Fixed term Salary ?32,236 - ?39,609 Posted Date 04/02/2019 Apply by 06/03/2019 Job Reference 7343 Documents Candidate Brief 7343.pdf (PDF , 2344.37kb) Role Description A fixed term postdoctoral appointment is available in the York Structural Biology Laboratory, part of the Department of Chemistry, to work in the group of Professor Tony Wilkinson, on an MRC Global Challenges Research project studying parasite enzymes including protein kinases and deubiquitinases that represent potential drug targets in Leishmaniasis. The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and most successful academic departments at York. The Department was placed in the top ten UK universities for Research Power by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF). You will conduct research on the 3-D structure of enzymes involved in post-translational modification in Leishmania parasites. You will carry out DNA manipulations for recombinant protein production, protein purification and crystallisation and structure determinations. You will also determine protein-ligand binding constants using biophysical techniques. You will provide advice to network collaborators and act as a focal point for the laboratory when hosting network visitors. For structure determination, you will use molecular replacement (MR) using available coordinate sets as search models using the CCP4 programmes, or determine experimental phases following heavy atom substitution and the use of multiwavelength anomalous dispersion methods. In these efforts, you will benefit from the wealth of crystallographic expertise in YSBL at York. You will be expected to communicate your research by the writing and publication of quality manuscripts as well as making presentations at conferences. You are expected to have a first degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemistry or a related discipline and a PhD in Enzymology, Cell Biology, Structural Biology, or equivalent experience. You will have a significant experience of gene expression and protein production as well as in aspects of enzymology or protein biochemistry.
