The Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Graz encompasses the workgroups algebra, applied analysis, high performance computing, inverse problems and imaging, optimization and optimal control, and stochastics. Research and teaching at the institute feature two doctoral courses, participation in two special research programmes, several contractual research projects as well as joint bachelor's and master's programmes with TU Graz and a Centre for Didactics. The Institute of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the Faculty of Natural Sciences is seeking to appoint a Professor (f/m) of Mathematical Optimization pursuant to § 98 of the University Act (UG) (NF Kunisch) (40 hours per week; permanent employment according to the Austrian Law on Salaried Employment (AngG); expected starting date October 1st 2020) The professorship represents the areas of "Continuous Mathematical Optimization and Optimal Control" and combines application-driven research with a solid proficiency in calculus of variations, the theory of partial differential equations and optimal control. Teaching in the area of applied mathematics, in particular optimization, on the level of the bachelor's and master's programme (diploma, teacher training programme) as well as the doctoral programme. Corresponding to the academic curriculum vitae a high-quality publication activity (publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals), which also quantitatively reflects a professional focus on the research profile, and experience in the acquisition of competitive third-party funds is expected. Competence in the supervision / instruction of young researchers is desirable. Classification Salary scheme of the Universitäten-KV (University Collective Agreement): A1 Minimum salary The minimum salary according to the classification scheme of the collective agreement is EUR 70.071,40 gross per year (14 monthly salaries). Salary subject to negotiation.
