Position: Professor in Maritime Training and Assessment

Location: Horten, Norway
Duties: The University has a doctoral programme in nautical operations in collaboration with three other maritime universities in Norway. The applicant is expected to be able to strengthen and support our Universities initiative in this program. The position may be assigned teaching, supervising and developing courses at all levels in the Department’s study programmes. The position may also be assigned teaching at other departments within University of South-Eastern Norway. The University also considers distance learning and e-learning to be a priority area, and the successful applicant must be able to supervise and teach students using online tools and digital media
Requirements: The applicant should have capability for research at a high international level, strong analytic and creative skills and process good communication capabilities. The applicant must have a track record of high quality academic research, successful external grants (national, EU and international), research leadership, and teaching related to Human Factors and Training & Assessment in Complex systems in general and Maritime domain specifically. Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English. Applicants outside the Scandinavian educational system (from high school or equivalent) may use the following tests as such documentation of English competence: TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). It is expected that pedagogical competency is documented by at least ½ year of practical-pedagogical education or by shorter courses in university pedagogy or an equivalence to that, if applies. Applicants who do not have such pedagogical qualifications may be hired with a duty to qualify within 3 years. Courses in university and college pedagogy will be made available. The applicant must have the ability to work independently and at the same time be motivated to share knowledge and participate in team work. In addition, to be hired as a professor a Norwegian doctorate in the field or comparable doctorate at a foreign institution or competency at the same level documented through academic work and publications of the same scope and quality are required
   
Text: University of South-Eastern Norway has about 18 000 students and about 1500 employees. The university is organized in four faculties, with instruction and R&D activities on eight campuses. Professor in Maritime Training and Assessment The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacant full-time permanent position as Professor in Maritime Training and Assessment. The position is attached to the Department of Maritime operations and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Vestfold. The position is Gift Professor position under Markom 2020. Responsibilities and duties We are seeking applicants who have interest and ability to conduct high quality research, teaching and industry collaboration related to Maritime Training and Performance Assessment. It is expected that the successful applicant will add to the development of relevant research at the Department and that he/she will interact with the industry and regularly apply for external funding. The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged in the Training and Assessment Research Group and contribute to the development of national and international networks. The position will also be responsible for research, research leadership and guidance in strategic areas of the University’s network of researchers. Qualifications The applicant should have capability for research at a high international level, strong analytic and creative skills and process good communication capabilities. The applicant must have a track record of high quality academic research, successful external grants (national, EU and international), research leadership, and teaching related to Human Factors and Training & Assessment in Complex systems in general and Maritime domain specifically. Additional research experience related to Simulator Training, Perormance Assessment Methods, Education, Human Factors, Maritime Safety and Autonomous Systems will be of advantage. Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English and proficiency in one of the Scandinavian language is an advantage. Salary level according to seniority and competence. In particular cases a higher salary can be considered. Statutory deposits each month from the salary to the pension fund.
