Postdoc in Image Analysis for Autonomous Systems and Quality Inspection DTU Compute Del til Facebook Del til Twitter Del til LinkedIn Wednesday 09 Jan 19 Apply for this job Apply no later than 23 January 2019 Apply for the job at DTU Compute by completing the following form. Apply online The Section for Image Analysis and Computer Graphics at DTU Compute, invites applications for an appointment as postdoc in Image Analysis for Autonomous Systems and Quality Inspection. The position is for three years and aimed computer vision for autonomous systems and quality inspection of manufactured objects and part of collaborative research projects. One project within vision based naval navigation and the other project aimed at quality inspection systems for wind turbine blade. The position is available from 1 February 2019 or according to mutual agreement. Our department, DTU Compute, is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science with an engineering focus. Based on this, we cover informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense, and we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour. DTU Compute strives to achieve research excellence in its basic science disciplines, to achieve technological leadership in research and innovation, and to address societal challenges in collaboration with partners at DTU and other academic institutions, nationally and internationally, and, equally important, with industry and organizations. We communicate and collaborate with leading centres and strategic partners to increase participation in major consortia. DTU Compute plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programmes at DTU - both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation. Responsibilities and tasks This postdoc position is aimed at carrying out research in computer vision methodology applied to autonomous systems and for inspection in manufacturing. This includes: Methods for object detection and classification. Methods for 3D surface scanning and analysis of derived data. Design of camera-based inspection systems and related analysis methods. Development of machine learning based computer vision systems including methods for generating artificial data for training such models. The position is part of ongoing research projects for autonomous naval navigation and wind turbine blade inspection. The postdoc will have the responsibility of delivering research results and methodologies according to the plans and milestones set in the projects that this position is part of. It is therefore expected, that the candidate will take a lead in planning his/her work in close collaboration with other project partners. Computer vision in natural lighting conditions and harsh environments, which is the conditions at wind turbine sites and for naval navigation, is highly challenging. Obtaining reliable information about defects or foreign objects requires advanced inference methods. New developments in machine learning based computer vision have shown good results, and it is expected that the research should take an offset in deep learning for computer vision. Therefore, emphasis will be put on: experience with image analysis and computer vision, experience with deep learning or other machine learning methods for image analysis, and experience with practical acquisition and (real time) analysis of image data. The project will to some extent also involve practical imaging setups for data acquisition, either in the lab or in a natural environment. So, experience with practical computer vision and data acquisition will also be beneficial. Furthermore, it will to some extent be possible to engage in: Supervision of students and BSc and MSc level. Engage in limited teaching activities such as single lectures in courses or PhD-summer schools. If you are eager to explore the possibilities of developing computer vision methods that solves challenging real-world problems in multidisciplinary projects, you should apply for this postdoc position. In the Image Analysis and Computer Graphics Section there is a close collaboration between researchers, which will also include this postdoc position. Furthermore, there are project partners at DTU Electro, DTU Wind, and other DTU departments as well as external industrial partners that will be part of the collaboration. To get the most out of the position, it is important that these collaborators are utilized such that methods, data and results are shared and published with these partners.
