Text: Stellenangebote Position: W3 Endowed Professorship in “Artifical Intelligence in Oncology” Code number: 2019-0005 The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research. Together with the Faculty for Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Heidelberg, and supported by the Robert Bosch Foundation for Medical Research mbH and the Robert Bosch Hospital GmbH, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is offering a W3 Endowed Professorship in “Artifical Intelligence in Oncology” (Kennziffer 2019-0005) The focus of this professorship will be to establish an internationally competitive research program in the development of scientific computing methods for the analysis of multi-dimensional data from oncology, particularly making use of the newest methods in the area of artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will have a broad spectrum of expertise in machine learning, as well as in-depth experience of algorithms, statistical modelling and processing large volumes of data. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active part in the existing research networks of the DKFZ, such as the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK), and in the establishment of new research collaborations. The professorship will also promote cooperation between the DKFZ, Heidelberg University and the Robert Bosch Center for Tumor Diseases (RBCT). The position is associated with the leadership of a division at the DKFZ, with part of the time spent on project work at the RBCT in Stuttgart. A certain amount of teaching at the Faculty is also expected, in accordance with the cooperation agreement between DKFZ and the university. Prerequisites for application are a university degree as well as a habilitation, a positively evaluated junior professorship or equivalent qualifications. The joint appointment follows the “Jülich model”, where the successful candidate will be appointed as a full professor at the University of Heidelberg and granted a leave of absence to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Further conditions of employment are set down in §§ 47 and 48, section 2, of the Baden-Württemberg federal-state law on higher education (Landeshochschulgesetz). In case all legal requirements are met, the candidate will be appointed with a permanent civil-servant status.
