Text: The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether PSI employs 2100 people. HIPA, the High Intensity Proton Accelerator, provides a primary beam of 590 MeV to several targets which provide high intensity muons, pions and neutrons for research. The department has expertise in cyclotron technology and on the creation and transport of high intensity proton beams and holds the world record for highest beam power. For a joint project between the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the PSI, we are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow Accelerator Physicist / Computer Scientist Your tasks This interdisciplinary SDSC-funded project "Particle Accelerators & Machine Learning" aims at developing surrogate models for optimization of the accelerator operation and beam quality at target stations.
