Position: Laboratory Specialist (Chemist) for Antibiotics Discovery Project

Requirements: Candidates should have a Msc degree in chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology or equivalent field. For carrying out the project, we expect you to have Experience with common organic extraction techniques Experience with HPLC operation and data analysis Experience handling microbial strains under sterile conditions The ability to work in GMO class 1 and 2 laboratories. Furthermore, knowledge and previous experience in microbial natural products biosynthesis, actinomycete biology or genetic/metabolic engineering and general lab-experience are highly advantageous

Apply online The New Bioactive Compound (NBC) section of DTU Biosustain is dedicated to finding the next generation of antimicrobial lead compounds by integrating innovative screening approaches, computational biology and metabolic engineering. The section owns a proprietary collection of actinomycetes that produce bioactive compounds, plus access to another large actinomycete collection through our collaborators. The chemistry laboratory specialist will work as part of a team of other chemists and microbiologists to screen these two strain collections to identify novel compounds with antibacterial activity. Responsibilities and tasks The primary tasks for this position are: Chemical extraction and HPLC purification of biological samples to identify bioactive compounds HPLC method development Growth and general handling of actinomycetes under sterile conditions Qualifications Candidates should have a Msc degree in chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology or equivalent field.
