Applicants with experience with seismic processing and analysis will be preferred. Both the grade for the master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of the master’s degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade
   
Text: The University of Stavanger invites applications for a research fellowship in Applied Geophysics at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Department of Energy Resources. This is a trainee position that will give promising researchers an opportunity for academic development leading to a doctoral degree. The appointment is for three years with research duties exclusively, or four years with both research and 25% compulsory duties. This will be clarified in the recruitment process. The position is vacant from January 2019. “This research project deals with the problem of seismic reservoir characterization and improved recovery. It focuses on the development of an appropriate theoretical background and workflow, for including frequency dependence into the 4D (time-lapse) seismic AVO inversion and analysis to estimate viscoelastic properties, pressure and fluid saturation changes. This work will be contributing to the National IOR center of Norway. As part of the project, the student will also collaborate with experts at NORCE Bergen.” Applicants must have a strong academic background with a five-year master’s degree within Geophysics, Petroleum Geoscience or Petroleum Engineering preferably acquired recently; or possess corresponding qualifications that could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate. In evaluating the applicants, emphasis will be placed on their potential for research in the field. The appointee must be able to work independently and as a member of a team, be creative and innovative. The research fellow must have a good command of both oral and written English. The resulting PhD degree will qualify for research and teaching positions at University level. The appointee will be based at the University of Stavanger, with the exception of a stay abroad at a relevant centre of research. The salary for this position is set according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.515, code 1017, NOK 449 400 per annum. The position provides an automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
