Position: Visiting lecturer in conservation of organic materials

Duties: The post involves course responsibility for, and teaching in the courses Conservation of Organic materials, 1 and 2 (15 ects), as well as teaching contributions to the courses Climate and Environment: Preventive Conservation (7, 5 ects) and Care of Collections (7, 5 ects) of the first year of the bachelor program Conservation of Cultural Heritage Objects. You might also asked to supervise students’ on their final thesis (15 ects). The two courses on Conservation of Organic materials, which the applicant will have responsibility for, aims to provide students with knowledge and skills in the preservation of archaeological, ethnographic, and historical objects made of organic materials
Requirements: Qualifying to be employed as a visiting lecturer is the one who has demonstrated pedagogical skills and has undergone university education at advanced level or has equivalent skills or other skills relevant to the content of the employment. The applicant should have a PhD in Conservation with a specialization in organic materials. We would like you to have teaching experience in an academic environment and experience of practical conservation work of organic materials. You should have good knowledge in Swedish or English, both speaking and writing. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a group, listens and communicates in a light and flexible manner. You should also have the ability to organize your work in a prioritized and structured manner and deliver within deadlines

Conservation demands expertise in a broad range of knowledge that includes fields in the natural sciences, the humanities, and the social sciences. Subject area Conservation with specialization in objects conservation. The department seeks an experienced conservator with specialization in objects made of organic materials. Job assignments The post involves course responsibility for, and teaching in the courses Conservation of Organic materials, 1 and 2 (15 ects), as well as teaching contributions to the courses Climate and Environment: Preventive Conservation (7,5 ects) and Care of Collections (7,5 ects) of the first year of the bachelor program Conservation of Cultural Heritage Objects. The courses discuss material characteristics, manufacturing techniques and deterioration mechanisms, how they are linked and affect the condition of the objects and thus the choice of conservation measures. Different treatment methods are discussed in theory and supplemented with practical skills training. The practical work also includes the conservation of objects.
