Duties: The project takes the ambitious step of developing geographical analysis and visualisation tools that can be used, successfully, by people with limited literacy, in a culturally appropriate way. The project includes working with marginalised, non-literate communities in remote areas (e.g. Cameroon rainforest) with the aim to enable them to conduct their own environmental monitoring or mapping. The successful candidate will be required to pick up an existing code base and develop it further using GitHub as a source code management repository

The project takes the ambitious step of developing geographical analysis and visualisation tools that can be used, successfully, by people with limited literacy, in a culturally appropriate way. The project includes working with marginalised, non-literate communities in remote areas (e.g. Cameroon rainforest) with the aim to enable them to conduct their own environmental monitoring or mapping. The successful candidate will join a team of anthropologists, geo-information scientists, human-computer interaction experts and computer scientists and will support the research efforts undertaken within the scope of this project. Key Requirements The successful applicant will need to have and MSc and/or PhD degree in relevant subject (e.g. Computer Science, Geographical Information Science, Human Computer Interaction) or relevant work experience of at least 3 years. They will also have the ability to write well-documented and maintainable code using state-of-the-art architecture and frameworks as well as experience with REST APIs and of various aspects of data management and SQL databases.
