Position: Senior Research Officer - Biostatistician

Duties: The International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS Southern Africa collaboration (IeDEA-SA) is looking to appoint a biostatistician with a particular focus on HIV cohort epidemiology. The main purpose of the position is to lead statistical analyses undertaken by IeDEA-SA and Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Research (CIDER) and to provide statistical support to the data centre of IeDEA-SA and related projects, hosted by CIDER at the School of Public Health & Family Medicine
Requirements: A PhD degree in Statistics, preferably Biostatistics A good understanding of the study designs and statistical methods most commonly used in biomedical research. Publication record commensurate with SRO level of appointment. Minimum 1 year post-PhD experience conducting statistical analyses in in health science related fields. Excellent knowledge of a statistical software package such as Stata and/or R
   
Text: SENIOR RESEARCH OFFI CER (BIOSTATISTICIAN) (Full time) Centre for Infectious Di sease Epidemiology and Research (CIDER) School of Public Health and Family Medicine FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES The International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS Southern Africa collaboration (IeDEA - SA) is looking to appoint a biostatistician with a particular focus on HIV cohort epidemiology. The main purpose of the position is to lead statistical a nalyses undertaken by IeDEA - SA and CIDER and to provide statistical support to the data centre of IeDE A - SA and related projects, hosted by CIDER at the School of Public Health & Family Medicine, UCT. IeDEA - SA is a regional data collaboration funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to address research questions in HIV/AIDS that require large six Southern African countries (Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe) contribute data and participa te in collaborative regional a nd multiregional analyses led by data centre researchers. The current database includes patient - level data on ?1 . 2 million adults and 100 000 children on ART. IeDEA - data from multiple differe nt sources. In addition, IeDEA - SA has spearheaded linkage with provincial and national databases such as the National Population Register and the National Cancer Register, improving its ability to accurately ascertain mortality an d other health outcomes. This is a full - time , permanent post which will entail leading statistical analyses on combined cohort data, providing biostatistical support to epidemiologists in IeDEA - SA and participating cohorts, writing up results, preparing manuscripts and presenting research or the analysis of cohort data. Requirements include:  A PhD degree in Statistics, preferably Biostatistics  nly used in biomedical research.  Publication record commensurate with SRO level of appointment.  Minimum 1 year post - PhD experience conducting statistical analyses in in health science related fields .  Excellent knowledge of a statistical software package such a s Stata and/or R  Experience working as part of a team . The following would be advantageous:  E xperience working with cohort data and longitudinal analyses .  Mathematical modelling skills and experience conducting mathematical modelling Responsibilities include:  Leading analyses on data from HIV treatment programmes .  Providing statistical support to researchers and students in CIDER and collaborating treatment programmes .  Participating in writing up results, preparing manuscripts and presenting study find ings .  . The successful candidate will be strongly supported in further professional development appropriate to prior training and experience, with excellent opportunities to travel f or conference attendance and advanced statistical methods courses, and to collaborate with leading scientists and institutions regionally and globally. This is a permanent appointment at Se nior Research Officer level.
