Duties: The Department of Biochemical Engineering is looking to appoint a Research Associate to join Saul Purton’s group, to contribute to a new research project on the genetic engineering of microalgae and pilot scale production of edible vaccines for aquaculture. This post is funded by BBSRC/NERC as part of their Aquaculture Initiative call. The post holder will be responsible for the design and carrying out of experimental work, its analysis and presentation, and manuscript preparation. The post-holder will be expected to produce independent, original contributions to the subject area
Requirements: The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in the area of Molecular Biology/Genetic Engineering/Synthetic Biology or Biochemical Engineering. S/he will have demonstrable experience of successful design and undertaking of research in this field, and publication of results. S/he is expected to have experience of dealing with multiple partner organisations and stakeholders

Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (?30,922 - ?32,607 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections). This post is available from now, with the possibility of extension. The post is grant funded for 15 months in the first instance.
