Position: Lecturer/Associate Professor in Pure Mathematics

Duties: The UCL Department of Mathematics invites applications from candidates for a Lecturer or Associate Professor in Pure Mathematics. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vigorous, high-level research programme in pure mathematics, including publishing regularly in leading journals, and be active in seeking to obtain external income to support their research. They will participate in local seminars as well as in national and international conferences. They will also contribute to the teaching of courses and supervision of projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level
Requirements: The successful candidate will have an established or developing track record of independent research excellence in pure mathematics of international standing, with a record of presenting mathematics research at national and international conferences, meetings, or workshops. They are expected to have a PhD or equivalent qualification in pure mathematics, and a clear vision for the potential impact of their research would be desirable. In addition, experience of running research projects, and experience of teaching mathematics at university level is required, including programme and course development. An established record of excellent teaching, and the successful supervision and mentoring of research staff, graduate students, student projects or dissertations would also be desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication is required, as well as good presentation skills. Exceptional candidates would also be expected to have a record of attracting external funding to support research activity, and an established track record of international research excellence in pure mathematics. For consideration at the Associate Professor level, candidates must have a strong record of attracting external research funding, and demonstrable leadership in their research field reflected by major publications, invited papers at international conferences, and/or awards. In addition, they should have a record of successful supervision and mentoring of graduate students and research staff, and experience of promoting teaching excellence with programme and course development

This post is part of an expansion of the department; posts in applied mathematics will also be advertised. The post is available from 1 September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
