Text: Z.12-706 03 g The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. Department 8.4 "Mathematical Modelling and Data Analysis" of Division 8 is recruiting a scientist specialized in mathematics, natural sciences, engineering sciences or a comparable subject to join us as of 1 January 2019. The position is available on the basis of a fixed-term contract for 15 months or, in the case of part-time employment, for up to 2.5 years. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund. You will be employed at our Berlin site. Your tasks: You will work on a third-party-funded project developing examples for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty for standards. Your goal will be to publish template solutions for regression problems in the areas quality of life, energy and industry. You will have the opportunity to establish contacts with industry as well as with the experts for measurement uncertainty in Europe. Practicality is a research objective. Specific activities will be:  Developing and publishing Bayesian methods for regression problems with uncertainty in the independent/explanatory variable;  Applying these methods in close cooperation with partners performing calibrations;  Collaborating with projects partners. Your profile:  You have obtained a relevant university degree in one of the above-mentioned subjects, preferably including a doctoral degree.  You have experience in at least one and an interest in the following subject areas: o regression procedures o metrology o statistical analysis of data  You have a very good command of spoken and written English.  Excellent communication skills, the ability to work in a team and independently, the willingness to improve your skills, commitment and reliability are required.  You are willing to travel within Germany and Europe. Once hired, you will work in Working Group 8.42 “Data Analysis and Measurement Uncertainty” that develops and applies statistical methods for data analysis. Research in the group is often carried out in collaboration with experimentally oriented working groups at PTB, with industry or with external academic partners.
