Position: Control Engineer for Robot Development (KTP Associate)

Duties: To develop an industrial scale prototype train cab front cleaning robot, addressing the requirements of the railway industry, including H&S issues, cleaning quality assurance and cleaning productivity. This role will focus on the control systems design challenges of the project and will work closely with another KTP Associate who will focus on the mechanical aspects of the project
Requirements: Masters level degree in control, mechanical or electrical engineering or closely related subject. Experience of working on industry/university partnership projects. Experience of preparing and publishing academic papers. Experience of working with robotics systems as well as industrial control systems (PLC). Software development skills in a language such as Java, C++, C# or Python. Servo systems/controller knowledge. PLC knowledge (such as Siemens simatic). 3D mechatronics/robot design using: Catia, (or similar CAD software); MATLAB/Simulink or LABVIEW. Knowledge of systems design principles. Analytical problem solving skills. High level of spoken and written English. Strong oral, visual and written communication and presentation skills. Good team working skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts effectively. Self-motivated, able to work independently and across teams

The Control Engineer for Robot Development (KTP Associate) will be based at the Garrandale site in Derby. An exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate has arisen as part of a 30-month KTP with Cranfield University. This project offers the opportunity to take on research challenges in the application of robotics to support the railway industry.
