Developed through the vision and partnership of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Wellcome, and with substantial investment from these partners, the mission of the SWC is to generate and test experimentally tractable theories of brain function. The Margrie lab is focused on studying cell-to-cell diversity within and across different neuronal classes and networks, in the context of local and long-range connectivity. It is their view that only a detailed quantitative understanding of the heterogeneity in connectivity and cellular composition of the network can elucidate key principles underlying the design and operation of neuronal circuits in the normal and diseased brain.
