Focused on robust approaches to software development in an agile team environment, our Research Engineers/Research Fellows are involved in all aspects of project lifecycles, including user requirements, architecture design and implementations which lead to research outputs and proof of concept demonstrators. The post is full time for 12 months in the first instance, renewable subject to funding and satisfactory performance. You You will maximise your problem-solving skills, working effectively within our creative, innovative team to meet and adapt to new challenges. Your knowledge of new and emerging technologies will be utilised collaboratively to create positive change and impacts to business/society with the consequence of bringing research closer to market. You have good written and oral communication skills to present your ideas clearly and effectively to colleagues, project partners and clients. You have the desire to identify and develop compelling software-based applications of distributed systems technologies which we are addressing in projects such as FLAME and Rest Assured . You will have a PhD* or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in computer science or a related discipline, good analytical and software development skills, and an understanding of performance challenges in distributed systems. You ideally have expertise in programming languages (Java, Python or C/C ) and data management approaches (SQL/NoSQL), but this is not essential. Knowledge is desirable of one or more of: cloud and network infrastructures; data processing technologies such as Tick Stack, Storm, Spark, Hadoop, Hive or HBase; secure programming.
