The post-holder will provide academic leadership across the Faculty in support of research activity, with a particular focus on external grant capture including doctoral training bids, professional advancement of researchers, research institutes, REF submissions and development of Impact activity
Requirements: Applicants for the position should be current academics from within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with a significant research record at national and international level. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven ability in developing research proposals and securing external funding, evidence of research leadership and well developed influencing and relationship building skills

The Faculty’s research profile has strengthened considerably over the last ten years and we are focusing on establishing QMUL as one of the leading institutions for Science and Engineering in the UK. The Faculty includes a number of with globally recognised centres of excellence in research in a number of areas as exemplified This is evidence by our recent membership of the Alan Turing Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. There has been significant academic investment across the faculty: more than 50 new academic posts have been established since 2014, with over £50m of capital investment in multiple building refurbishments and renewing equipment portfolios across the Faculty. The Faculty has distinctive strengths and promotes research and collaborations between our Schools and across the University. The Dean for Research will be expected to further develop these collaborations and partnerships and to ensure the Faculty is full engaged with UKRI and individual research councils. The Dean for Research will further shape and lead the research strategy for the Faculty of Science and Engineering working closely with the Vice Principal for Science and Engineering, Faculty Executives, Heads of School and Directors of Research within the five Schools in the Faculty. The post-holder will provide academic leadership across the Faculty in support of research activity, with a particular focus on external grant capture including doctoral training bids, professional advancement of researchers, research institutes, REF submissions and development of Impact activity. The Dean for Research position is offered as a 0.5FTE secondment for an initial period of 3 years. Applicants for the position should be current academics from within the Faculty of Science and Engineering with a significant research record at national and international level. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven ability in developing research proposals and securing external funding, evidence of research leadership and well developed influencing and relationship building skills. The position attracts a responsibility allowance of £7000 per annum and the Faculty will match your salary for your substantive academic position for the 0.5FTE secondment period.
