Duties: The aim of PANDORA is to strengthen, regional and pan-African capacities and systems for enabling rapid and effective response to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases threats arising from within Africa, or those imported from overseas. The project aims to build laboratory, public health and clinical trials capacity for the rapid investigation of outbreaks at source. IGH is looking to appoint a Research Associate in Epidemiology/Statistics. The post holder will work to develop a research interest in infectious disease epidemiology within the existing programme and contribute to teaching in relation to the PANDORA consortium
Requirements: Candidates will require an MBBS or equivalent, a PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics or equivalent, an MSc in Epidemiology or Statistics or equivalent. The post-holder will have a background in infectious disease epidemiology research or similar and with proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality original research, leading to publication in addition to proven research aptitude and laboratory experience. They will have the highest ethical and professional standards in research and education and a strong commitment to academic research or academic medicine. Applicants will also demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

IGH has received funding from the European Commission as part of a Pan-African Network for Rapid Research, Response, Relief and Preparedness for Infectious Diseases Epidemics (PANDORA) Consortium. The aim of PANDORA is to strengthen, regional and pan-African capacities and systems for enabling rapid and effective response to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases threats arising from within Africa, or those imported from overseas. IGH is looking to appoint a Research Associate in Epidemiology/Statistics. The post holder will work with Professor Ibrahim Abubakar to develop a research interest in infectious disease epidemiology within the existing programme and contribute to teaching in relation to the PANDORA consortium. The key working relationships will be with the PANDORA study staff and the post holder will also develop research links with overseas partners and travel to research sites to support outbreak investigation, capacity development and implementation of epidemiological studies in relation to furthering the objectives of the PANDORA consortium. The post holder will provide leadership and management in relation to clinical/ epidemiological studies. This post will provide the opportunities to develop key public health, research and teaching competencies with a focus on PANDORA consortium. Contribute to specific areas of public health and clinical research within the consortium. Supporting the development of additional grant applications. The post holder will report directly and is accountable to Professor Ibrahim Abubakar. The post holder will be willing to travel to overseas sites to undertake relevant research. The post is available for 30 months in the first instance.
