Duties: Take responsibility for statistical aspects of the trials: Developing statistical analysis plans and working practices, undertaking analyses, preparation and presentation of reports, discussion and interpretation of results, assisting in the preparation of conference abstracts and papers for peer reviewed journals. Take responsibility for day to day management of statistical aspects of the studies: Liaising on data quality, actively providing a statistical viewpoint for decisions about trial management, and identification of potential problems impacting on final results. Provide statistical advice on the development of new research proposals, including study design and sample size calculations
Requirements: You will have an enthusiastic approach, excellent communication skills, and proven ability to prioritise and work to deadlines. You should have a good understanding of statistical concepts and familiarity with one or more statistical packages, a good understanding of randomised controlled trials principles. You will have practical experience of statistical methods in analysing trial data, experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams and preparing/presenting reports. You will be able to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels. Knowledge of the biology and epidemiology of cancer is desirable

The Unit undertakes world-class research, and we are committed to strengthening and expanding the evidence base for healthcare both nationally and internationally, delivering innovative and novel research that can really make a difference. We are looking to recruit outstanding Statisticians to play a central role in ground-breaking clinical trials and meta-analysis. The opportunities encompass statistical input and support for high profile, international clinical trials in cancer and infectious diseases, and an opportunity to play a key role in an exciting 5-year collaborative, internal programme of activity to speed up the evaluation of cancer treatments to ultimately help give faster access to life-saving therapy. The MRC Clinical Trials Unit is seeking two enthusiastic Medical Statisticians to provide statistical support for high profile international clinical trials in cancer and infectious diseases. The roles will involve working within multi-disciplinary teams on the trials and associated translational research within the CTU?s Cancer or Infections themes. The successful candidates will work on two trials in either Cancer or Infections: Cancer Trials: Include PROMIS, a diagnostic study that is evaluating the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of prostate cancer; and RAMPART, an international phase III multi‑arm multi‑stage (MAMS) randomised-controlled platform trial conducted at hospitals in the UK, France, Australia, New Zealand and the US. https://www.rampart-trial.org/ Infections Trials: Include SURE, a clinical trial of short intensive anti-tuberculosis and anti-thrombosis treatment for children to be conducted in Vietnam, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe; and RID-TB, a recent NIHR funded programme which includes a number of diagnostic and treatment studies of latent TB infection across 30 centres in the UK. These are open ended appointments with initial funding for 2 years. In this exciting role you will:- ? Participate in teaching and in the statistical review of papers.
