The main focus of this role will be to develop and support a growing portfolio of projects on quantitative medical imaging - image segmentation and pattern recognition, image quality metrics and digital health
Requirements: The ideal candidate will already be established in the field with a demonstrated high scientific profile and hold a PhD or equivalent in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or other related discipline, and is likely to have at least 10 years’ experience in this area. Text: Principal or Senior Research Scientist - Medical Radiation Physics Job Ref: 66094 Job Title: Principal or Senior Research Scientist - Medical Radiation Physics Location: Teddington Type: Permanent Closing date: 1st July 2018 Job Description NPL’s Metrology for Medical Physics team aims to increase confidence and reproducibility in diagnosis and treatment both in and outside of the clinical setting especially for cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases. MEMPHYS is equipped with a range of medical equipment including medical linear accelerators, dual energy CT, SPECT and PET. In addition NPL expects to install its own full-body, human, 3T MRI system for research purposes by 2019. Depending on the successful candidate’s previous experience the post may be offered at principal research scientist or senior research scientist level The post holder will be based within the NPL MEMPHYS team at the Teddington site but will be expected to develop strong links with the NPL Data Science team at NPL. They will be expected to further strengthen existing and develop new collaborations with academia, hospitals and industry, in particular they would work closely with the UCL’s Institute of Child Health and the University of Surrey’s Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing. The post holder would be expected to proactively establish and develop new collaborative projects with other institutions across the UK and internationally. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing leadership for more junior scientists, as well as representing NPL nationally and internationally, and will also be expected to prepare project proposals and to act as technical lead for projects. Strong personal motivation, the ability to interact and network with academic, industrial and health service collaborators and future customers, business awareness and an ability to work to deadlines within a team are prerequisites for the role.
