Position: Group Underwriting Specialist

Duties: Analysis Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for quality improvement, assess the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions. Analyzes specifications on non-experience rated and experience rated cases, particularly large and/or complex cases, using established underwriting guidelines to determine eligibility and pricing. Prepares proposals/renewals/amendments by reviewing quote requests, including Key Accounts, from brokers and marketing representatives analyzing group statistical data, actuarial reports and market information to determine group eligibility and coverage pricing rates. Reviews sold policies, amendments and renewals to ensure minimal deviation from original requests to ensure adequate pricing and coverage. Maintains customer confidence by keeping all information confidential to protect company operations. Communication Supports the growth and lead the change throughout the organization as we move to a continuous improvement culture. Promotes and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within quality improvement Identifies and communicates to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality for the organization. Negotiates benefits and pricing on non-experienced rated and experienced rated cases, including Large Cases, with brokers and representatives, using established underwriting guidelines. Provides sales assistance information to brokers and marketing representatives for non-experienced and experienced rated groups, including Large Cases, by answering questions and requests, quoting rates and explaining underwriting products, policies and procedures. Communicates frequently by telephone and written correspondence with internal and external customers to clarify and resolve underwriting information. Travels occasionally to customers'and Field offices to meet customer needs and represent company at industry meetings

The Role As the Underwriting Specialist you will support the evaluation of risk to determine new business, amendment, and renewal pricing using established Underwriting guidelines. You will work within a defined authority level matrix which includes experience rating and risk analysis. You will follow the pre-established appeal process and complete underwriting audits to ensure adherence and consistency to business guidelines and procedures. Requirements Education 4 Year/Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience (4 yrs of experience in lieu of Bachelors) Experience 1-3 yrs of underwriting experience (Group Life, STD, LTD and/or Dental) that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position Group Life, STD, LTD, and/or Dental product knowledge Experience rating capabilities in Life, STD, LTD, and/or Dental A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions Drives performance targets to completion This position may be subject to Lincoln’s Political Contribution Policy.
