Requirements: Candidates should have a Ph.D. or be near Ph.D. defense in electrical engineering. The candidate should have a strong background from at least one of the areas power electronics, power system protection, and HVDC technology. The successful applicant should have an outstanding research and publication record. Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills are a requirement. We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who is able to work independently. Good command of English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results. Knowledge of Swedish it a merit since part of our teaching is done in Swedish

Project description The postdoctor will be part of KTH’s participation in a major Horizon 2020 project aimed at promoting the deployment of offshore HVDC grids, see the project homepage . The postdoctor should investigate the interaction between different HVDC conversion technologies and the protection systems in HVDC offshore grids. In particular, the work includes: 1) Implementation and testing of different protection systems in a real-time simulator including communication infrastructure, measurement devices and a physical HVDC circuit breaker model. 2) Investigation of interaction between protection and control including impact of cable modelling and impact of control on the converter impedance. Given that the work will be part of an EU project the applicant should be prepared to travel to the project partners on several occasions.
