Evaluates the DOE computational science application landscape and explores algorithmic solution strategies based on spatio-temporal statistical modeling and high-performance computing on present leadership-class systems as well as emerging architectures. Builds a research program in computational science by writing proposals to various agencies. Position Requirements Bachelor’s and 12 years; Master’s and 7 years; Doctorate and 6 years; or equivalent. Expertise in computational science, with good understanding of DOE science applications. Comprehensive ability to explore and research new areas. Skill in mathematics and/or statistics and experience with large-scale numerical computation. Knowledge of using parallel computers to solve complex computational science problems from a variety of scientific disciplines. Collaborative skills, including the ability to work with other laboratories and universities. Experience and skills in interdisciplinary research involving mathematicians, computational scientists and domain scientists. Considerable independent judgment, the ability to abstract from specific problems to general solutions. Ability to provide project leadership and generate outside fundingfor research.
