Text: Assistant Professor of Mathematics or Statistics Job ID 14689 Location USF St. Petersburg Full/Part Time Full-Time Regular/Temporary Regular Posting Details College/Division: College of Arts & Sciences Department: Department of Biological Sciences Salary Plan: Tenure Track, Academic Year Hiring Salary/Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 DUTIES: The Mathematics and Statistics Unit within the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics or Statistics to begin in August, 2018. Applicants must have their Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship. Currently, a proposal for an undergraduate degree program in Computational and Applied Mathematics is being vetted for approval, with an anticipated implementation during the Fall 2018 semester. Concurrently, it is anticipated that the independent Department of Mathematics and Statistics will be founded. Our team of outstanding faculty seeks collegial and collaborative members to build both the department and our degree program as well as to foster the mathematics community at USFSP. Responsibilities will include developing and teaching a range of undergraduate courses in computational and applied mathematics. Applicants who can develop and teach courses in discrete mathematics, applied mathematics, applied probability and statistics, and applied geometry, are particularly invited to apply, as are candidates with secondary fields in areas related to data sciences. The successful applicant for this 9 month position will have an outstanding potential for significant research, be passionate about teaching mathematics to undergraduates and all levels and provide evidence of excellence in teaching, a commitment to service at both the departmental and university levels, will possess effective oral and written communication skills, and have broad intellectual interests.The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original scholarly research, contribute to the development of new courses in this degree program, support student success, and work collaboratively with colleagues in mathematics and other disciplines. QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience): Minimum Qualifications: Completed and earned doctoral degree in mathematics or statistics from an accredited institution by August 1, 2018 with achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. ABD is not sufficient. Must meet University criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants experienced in teaching a wide range of applied mathematics and/or statistics courses with demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching, learning, student success, academic service and research productivity potential.
