Duties: The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering invites applications to undertake research on integrated electrical machine and power electronics converter system technology within The Electrical Machines and Drives (EMD) Group. The role involves the use of advanced design and analysis tools for the development of novel Inverter Integrated Machine for Low Carbon Vehicles. For power electronics and controls the project requires the development of software and hardware, novel control strategies, as well as simulation, implementation and testing, while for electrical machines the project requires extensive use of electromagnetic finite element tools, together with system level optimisation
Requirements: Applicants should possess relevant research and/or industrial experience in the design of power electronics, electrical machines and their controls, with particular emphasis on the power electronics converters. It is essential that the successful applicant holds a PhD or is near completion in power electronics control of electrical machines

The Department currently has 43 academic staff including 22 Professors and a number of other teaching, research and support staff. The successful applicants will work very closely with engineers from a major international industrial partner. The role involves the use of advanced design and analysis tools for the development of novel Inverter Integrated Machine for Low Carbon Vehicles. For power electronics and controls the project requires the development of software and hardware, novel control strategies, as well as simulation, implementation and testing, while for electrical machines the project requires extensive use of electromagnetic finite element tools, together with system level optimisation. In addition, the fabrication and testing of proof-of-concept prototypes are essential to evaluate and quantify the techno economic benefits of the developed technology, using facilities available within the EMD group. Applicants should possess relevant research and/or industrial experience in the design of power electronics, electrical machines and their controls, with particular emphasis on the power electronics converters. It is essential that the successful applicant holds a PhD or is near completion in power electronics control of electrical machines.
