The intern will be immersed in the process of gathering, curation and delivery of legacy clinical data into our Data Lake for Research. The Data Sciences and Technology department of the Medical School is looking to develop in-depth processes for the curation of our current data sources and preparing for future sources as they present. During the internship, we will collaborate to leverage technology, existing processes and old-fashioned detective work to improve the confidence in our pool of data as well as develop SOPs for future work. Together, we will apply best practices in the collecting, cleaning and standardization of clinical data in a variety of formats and from multiple sources. Data is the lifeblood of any research community. The lake and all its contents depend on the confidence of our researchers. That confidence comes from the quality of the data and timeliness we provide. Detail oriented talented puzzle solvers need apply! You will work with an IT DLR data integration team who are passionate about providing the best data to their researchers and helping to pave the way to new discoveries! Responsibilities MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilize innovative ideas and approaches to assist in the development of working models to serve the needs of our faculty, students and researchers Complete a project from start to finish and write-up and present the work product to the UMass community Participate in team projects Conduct online research Perform other duties as required Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a currently enrolled student in a higher education institution or recent graduate Solid analytical and communication skills Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours Proven interest in IT and passion in furthering the mission of UMMS Must have above average academic performance Additional Information PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Outstanding communicator who can present information and processes concisely Outstanding listener with an attention to detail An established track record of delivering on commitments Familiar or experience working securely with PHI and PII data Familiar with or can quickly learn ETL tools like Pentaho or Talend Familiar with SQL (SQL Server/Oracle) Preferred experience in Quality Assurance and digital analytics A passion for achieving results on time through the application of technology Demonstrated ability to build positive and productive professional relationships Possesses positive attitude and creativity Emerging organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently Demonstrated experience being innovative, flexible, engaging and empowered throughout the delivery cycle.
