This is an intermediate-level data scientist position responsible for the delivery of statistical expertise to improve health care delivery in the fields of critical care medicine. The incumbent will participate actively in collaborative research projects and conduct applied methodological research. The work will involve close collaboration with biostatistics faculty, clinical investigators, and data managers to manage and analyze large, complex medical data sets in support of multiple ongoing projects. Duties include management and analysis of large clinical data sets, including data cleaning, linking multiple datasets, creation of derived variables, formation of analytic flat files, performing rigorous statistical analyses, presenting verbal and written results to the research teams, preparing reports for the other members of the research teams, and contributing to presentations, manuscripts, and grants. In addition, the incumbent will develop or help faculty biostatisticians to novel methodologies for analyzing data, if current methodologies are inappropriate. Proficiency in statistical methods and experience in using statistical packages such as SAS , STATA , R, or SPSS are required. Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are imperative. The ideal candidate will have a strong statistical foundation in order to manage and analyze data and have a positive attitude toward independently learning new skills in order to contribute to the success of the projects. A Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related fields is required.
