Position: Health Informatics Scientist

Duties: The Health Informatics Staff Scientist performs intermediate and advanced medical/health informatics analysis for clinical operations and research projects with minimal guidance from scientific management and faculty. Develops, validates and implements algorithms to approximate disease events such as treatment response and cancer recurrence using a combination of clinical and administrative data. Develops, validates and implements natural language processing and other text based mining tools to extract biological knowledge from free text or other unstructured data within domain literature and the electronic medical record system
Requirements: Master's degree in computer science, health informatics, medical informatics or related field is required. Experienced health/medical informatics professional. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, and will be very engaged and hands-on with faculty and staff and will work closely with members of the Cancer Informatics Core scientific and administrative teams. The candidate will apply technical expertise and background knowledge to serve as a resource for investigators and staff regarding medical informatics approaches and tools. Experience in informatics support using public and commercial software packages. Experience extracting and managing data via relational and non-relational databases

Position Highlights: · The Health Informatics Staff Scientist II performs intermediate and advanced medical/health informatics analysis for clinical operations and research projects with minimal guidance from scientific management and faculty. · Develops, validates and implements algorithms to approximate disease events such as treatment response and cancer recurrence using a combination of clinical and administrative data. · Develops, validates and implements natural language processing and other text based mining tools to extract biological knowledge from free text or other unstructured data within domain literature and the electronic medical record system. The Ideal Candidate: · Experienced health/medical informatics professional. · The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, and will be very engaged and hands-on with faculty and staff and will work closely with members of the Cancer Informatics Core scientific and administrative teams. · The candidate will apply technical expertise and background knowledge to serve as a resource for investigators and staff regarding medical informatics approaches and tools. Responsibilities: · Manages with minimal guidance the daily workflow of medical informatics projects including estimating timelines, validating data quality, providing data analysis and reports with visualizations to collaborators. · Communicates project progress, timely submission of data and related reports including providing support for manuscripts and grant applications. · Writes and develops own code, finds errors, corrects and validates output and results. Performs complex programming to parse data, data transposition and data merging. Provide input and mentoring to junior staff members. · Collaborates with researchers and members of other core facilities to interpret medical informatics analysis. · Credentials and Qualifications: · Master's degree in computer science, health informatics, medical informatics or related field is required but PhD is preferred. · Experience in informatics support using public and commercial software packages. · Experience extracting and managing data via relational and non-relational databases. · Experience with natural language processing of data within the electronic medical record system environment (Cerner experience preferred). · Experience working with biological data, healthcare administrative data and or electronic medical records systems and data to build and evaluate computational models. · Knowledge of oncology field is preferred. · Must be able to establish and maintain effective collaborative research relationships and to contribute to research projects requiring medical informatics support. · Strong verbal and written communications skills.
