Text: 2017BAPFSWEF286 - Postdoctoral researcher, Migration Data Management The Centre for Migration and Intercultural Studies (CeMIS) of Antwerp University is looking for a Postdoctoral researcher (100%) with international research experience in migration studies The researcher will work on the European project ‘CROSS-MIGRATION’ conducted by a multi-partner consortium. The aim of the project is to contribute to a better understanding of current and emerging migration, not by new research but rather by surveying and bringing together existing research on key migration questions. As one of the leading partners, CeMIS is in charge of building a comprehensive ‘knowledge hub’ for migration research. The researcher will be responsible for developing a sustainable research portal, in close cooperation with the other project partners. The overall task of the researcher will be on mapping the migration research field (with a focus on Europe) and on (availability of) migration data itself, data collection and methodological aspects of research on migration. In addition, as a postdoctoral researcher, the researcher will be expected to take initiative to publish in academic journals, to assist with the preparation and submission of research proposals, to supervise junior researchers, and to offer support in the organisation of conferences, seminars and other events organised by CeMIS. Job description The major tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will be to carry out the coordination, communication, networking and data mapping tasks as required by CROSS-MIGRATION. This includes: the design, development and launch of an interactive and sustainable migration research portal. The portal will be publicly available to policy makers, analysts, researchers as well as other interested audiences, and will be an accessible and low-threshold service; stocktaking of migration research projects and actions, including data/datasets and metadata in Europe; evaluation of strengths and weaknesses of current migration data, data collection practices and dissemination practices in migration research in the EU, and promote understanding of data availability, comparability and quality. Additional tasks are: coordinating and supportive tasks within CeMIS; write research proposals, preferably an ERC Grant. Profile and requirements a PhD in social, political or (socio) economical sciences, or psychology; work experience and interest in migration studies; international research experience; excellent communication and coordination skills; experience with (migration) data management (qualitative and quantitative); experience with the visualisation/presentation of research findings for non-academic audiences, such as policy makers; excellent academic and analytic skills; familiarity with European migration research networks is a plus; a profile suitable for applying for an ERC Grant is an asset; capable to work independently; responsible and dedicated; fluent in English (oral and written) and have excellent language skills in at least 2 other European languages (French, German, Spanish); a team player and networker; flexible; willing to travel.
