Duties: Develop therapeutic non-coding RNAs conjugated to cell-penetrating peptides (CCPs) primed to target the HIV LTR. Screen and evaluate RNA-CPP conjugates for their ability to epigenetically silence the virus. Optimize promising RNA sequences by introducing synthetic nucleotides to enhance duplex stability (e.g. LNA) and metabolic resistance (e.g. 2’-OMe) Test HIV-directed small non-coding RNA-CPP candidates in the SCID-CD34 NeuroAIDS mouse model. Besides utilizing RNA-CPPs, this project also prepares the ground for evaluating protein-based therapeutics for HIV silencing. Drafting manuscripts – publish results
Requirements: Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Strong background in organic synthesis. Background in oligonucleotide synthesis. Preferentially experienced in working with biochemical systems. Several papers in good international journals. Independence and good communication skills in English

Apply online A 1-year postdoctoral position is available at DTU Chemistry starting from December 1, 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The primary objective is to evaluate the therapeutic potential of small antisense non-coding RNAs to target viral HIV transcription with the overall goal to permanently silence HIV in the brain. To ensure effective transport across the blood-brain barrier, RNAs will be conjugated to cell-penetrating peptides. Associate Professor Kira Astakhova at DTU Chemistry will be the main supervisor on the project.
