Position: Two postdoctoral fellowships in Quantitative Ecology

Duties: The research will aim to improve our fundamental understanding of how biological diversity is established, maintained, or distributed across natural ecosystems. We seek researchers who have a familiarity with both modeling and empirical research, but strong quantitative, analytical backgrounds will be favored. Along with developing an independent research lines focusing on fundamental ecological theory, the researcher will be expected to work alongside ecosystem ecologists and earth-system modelers to improve the realism and structure of ecosystem models by helping them reflect critical ecological processes
Requirements: The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a related topic. The research will require strong quantitative/analytical stills, with experience handling big datasets and modeling complex systems. Researchers should be driven to lead experimental or observational studies that generate the empirical data needed to parameterize statistical or mechanistic models. Interested candidates should show good evidence of independent research, generating and leading their own projects

The research will aim to improve our fundamental understanding of how biological diversity is established, maintained, or distributed across natural ecosystems. We seek researchers who have a familiarity with both modeling and empirical research, but strong quantitative, analytical backgrounds will be favored. The Department of Environmental Systems Science boasts a highly interdisciplinary group of world-leading experts in a range of topics that provide a unique opportunity for collaboration. This will be reflected in this research lab, which will bring together experts with highly different skillsets to promote interdisciplinary projects. Post-doctoral research is the best time for academic ecologists to focus on research, take risks and develop big research ideas. These positions are intended to provide an opportunity to do this. Post-docs will have the opportunity to design projects for, work with, and advise PhD students who can help to develop their broader research lines.
