Requirements: High school graduation or GED. This position requires an independent, organized, and motivated individual with demonstrated research skills. Six months to a year of experience in a related field. Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Additional Information Purpose Provide research support for the long term studies of switchgrass ecology, genetics, and evolution. It will involve a combination of horticultural work maintaining and propagating plant material, the collection of field data from experiments and field trials, and basic processing of samples for analysis in the lab. Essential Functions Provide horticultural care and assist in propagation of plant material for experiments. Assist with maintenance, care and collection of data from growth chamber, greenhouse, and field experiments. Conduct hand pollinations to generate new plant material in a plant breeding program for studies of hybrid vigor. Assist in processes of plant samples for studies of grass anatomy, tissue characteristics, and leaf physiology. Assist in general lab maintenance and clean up. Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned. Required qualifications High school graduation or GED. Preferred Qualifications BA or BS in ecology, biology, agronomy, or other related field and previous experience with field research. Experience in plant propagation, field plot establishment and maintenance, plant physiological measurements, such as leaf gas exchange, light interception, tissue characterization, and sample preparation for nutrient analysis are preferred skills. Familiarity with data logger programming and operation is also desirable.
