Minimum Qualifications • Ph.D. in mathematics, or significant progress toward a Ph.D., with expectation of timely completion (Ph.D.’s in physics or computer science will also be considered, if sufficient mathematical expertise is evident) • Record of excellence in undergraduate instruction (courses taught as a graduate assistant qualify, provided the applicant was the instructor of record) Preferred Qualifications • Ability to teach in a variety of different formats (face-to-face, hybrid, online) • Expertise with mathematical software used in upper-level courses and research, such as Mathematica and Matlab • Research expertise and/or interest in the fields of algebra, graph theory, order theory, partial differential equations, and/or mathematical physics • Expertise in technical writing, particularly LaTeX Physical Demands • Mobility sufficient to work in a standard office setting • Eyesight sufficient to read printed materials and a computer screen • Hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over the telephone • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time • Strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds • Ability to climb stairs Essential Duties • Teach undergraduate courses, both lower and upper-level • Teach graduate courses (preferable) • Participate in mathematical research • Design instructional materials • Advise students • Supervise student workers • Assist with institutional effectiveness planning and implementation • Assist with grant applications and other administrative and departmental tasks • Serve on University and School of Natural & Behavioral Sciences committees as assigned Special Instructions to Applicants Please request official transcripts to be sent to William Carey University, Office of Academic Affairs, 498 Tuscan Ave., Box 15, Hattiesburg, MS, 39401, from the colleges/universities you have attended.
