Text: Assistant Professor - Mathematics Department Mathematics & Statistics - 32361 Vacancy Number 16F-079 Position Number 6193 Location of Workplace Main UNCW Campus Summary of Position The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (http://www.uncw.edu/math) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in pure mathematics with specialization in abstract algebra at the assistant professor level starting August 2017. The chosen candidate will be expected to excel in teaching introductory and advanced mathematics courses and engage students in research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, expectations for this position include maintaining a strong research program and providing service to the department and university. Degree programs offered by the department include a bachelor of arts and bachelor of science in mathematics along with a master of science in mathematics. Minimum Requirements A doctoral degree in mathematics with a research concentration in abstract algebra or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications Desired qualifications include postdoctoral experience, experience and/or interest in undergraduate and graduate research, and potential to work with existing faculty on research. Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers programs leading to undergraduate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and teacher licensure, as well as a graduate degree in mathematics and a graduate certificate in applied statistics. The department consists of 30 faculty members, approximately 25 graduate students/teaching assistants and approximately 110 majors. (http://www.uncw.edu/math).
